Playing Wild FOR FREE
Hello everyone!
I explained already in my previous post that it has been a while that I had played Splinterlands. With the launch of the latest set, Conclave Arcana, I have picked up playing Splinterlands. Although a lot has changed since I played more actively, the essentials still stay the same. You build your deck and compete against others and try to win. Not difficult at all, right?
Besides battling a lot of emphasis is being put on land. To be honest, I have completely missed that train. Although I am not really sure if i missed it or if the train is still waiting in the station. I will need some time to figure out if I am going to invest into it and if yes, how much I would invest in it. Anyways, that's not the main topic of this post. As it's at the moment possible to battle in Wild for free. Yes, in general, you have to pay a fee to play in the wild format, thus this being free is definitely great for older players who come back. Most, or probably even all of my cards belong to the wild format, so actually, I have to play in wild. That's another thing I need to explore. How much will I invest in the new set of cards: Conclave Arcana? It's a question I can't answer just yet. But time will help me decide, as well as reading other articles about the launch of the set. Anyway, today I am going to write about another game I played in the Wild format. But first I want to point out to my fellow 'oldschool' Splinterlands players how the actual Wild format is organised. Yes, when I stopped playing Splinterlands actively, there even was no wild and modern. Guess I am getting old, no?
As you can read in the official post, Splinterlands want to celebrate the Bloodline mechanic. I already hear you thinking: What is that mechanic? Well, it's similar to Splinters: Fire, Water, Earth, Undead and Normal but it adds another layer. So you could have a monster which is fire and as bloodline dwarf for example. There are certain abilities which help a certain bloodline. For example Bloodline tribute would boost the stats of your monsters with the same bloodline. To celebrate this new mechanic, Splinterlands decided that the Wild battle pass is completely free. So instead of having to pay 2000DEC to be able to play in Wild, everyone can join the Wild battles for free. What's your reason to not profit from this unique opportunity? ;)
My first battle
Now, let's speak about my latest battle.
Once again, I had an opponent who surrendered. I don't know if it happens more than in the past. But from my latest three battles, two have surrendered. Feel free to share your experiences with surrendering opponents. On the one hand, it's good as it's a free win for me. On the other hand, I can't really can't it as a real game and thus don't experience the complete fun experience. But hey, let's just go for another game!
But before moving onto the next game, I apparently got promoted to Bronze II. I was sitting in Bronze III because of my longterm inactivity, so moving to Bronze II is already an achievement in my eyes. Anyways, now I hope I will receive an opponent who isn't scared of me! :D
I didn't know that by improving my league, I would receive chests which have rewards. So another surprise is that I got three chests. Noting to good but atleast managed to get one card. Free cards is always great, so here is the card I received:
My second battle
This time I managed to find an opponent, he has a higher rating as I have, but as I have been demoted because of inactivity, this doesn't matter that much to me. It's a high mana match, 38 mana, with the ruleset: Aim True which means that monsters can't miss their attack.
As I don't have that many good summoners in the water Splinter, which is the only element we could use in this battle, I decided to choose my legendary Summoner: Possibilus The Wise. He gives +2 Health to all my monsters, gives Trample to all my monsters and gives Reach to all my monsters. Quite a lot of abilities thus. The main reason I chose him is for the Reach ability and the +2health. As the ruleset doesn't let monsters miss an attack, having extra health definitely helps with surviving. Furthermore, I built my deck around Coastal Sentry, this may be an odd decision but in combination with reach (and tramble), it could deal a ton of damage. Especially as its attacks can't miss the opponent. Furthermore, I added some assassins and Demented Shark to boost the attacks even more. Conclusion, I went all in on melee and tried to be able to put out as much damage as possible.
My opponent went for Kelya Frendul as summoner, he's quite good and a really allround summoner which gives +1 speed and +1 armor to all monsters. Besides that summoner, my opponent put his mana in building a real tank. His monsters both had the Repair (to repair armor) and Tank heal (to heal the monster in the first position).
The thing with this battle is, if I manage to break through the defence of the tank, I will likely manage to win the battle. If I don't have enough damage to hit through the tank, than I will get killed slowly. So, let's head over to the battle.
At the beginning of Round 2, not much has changed. Monsters had dealt their damage, but no big changes on the board.
At the beginning of round 3 is when there has been some action. Both the tanks, mine and the tank of the opponent, have been defeated. For me things look good, as my Coastal Sentry can now cut through the other monsters since she deals a ton of damage.
As you can see, my Coastal Sentry has done exactly what I had expected. She managed to deal a ton of damage and just kill the monsters of the opponent one by one. The double strike ability combined with trample gives her four attacks of 4 melee damage. Yes, that's a decent damage output.
I ended up winning this battle once again. So far, I have won all the four battles I have played since I started to play once again. Remember that I had quite a decent amount of rating less than my opponent: 420 vs 620, so maybe a take-away, don't be scared if your opponent has a higher rating, chanches are there that you're still able to beat him!
Conclusion
So far, I have won all four of four games I have played. I guess I am really good at this game, cough cough. Two of the games were surrendering opponents. Anyway, I really enjoyed playing once again. I will have to take a look and figure out if I could start to play more actively once again. But for playing more actively, I would have to invest in buying more cards. Spending hive is always a hard decision as I would like to grow my Hive Power as well. I will go to bed now and debate with my self what my next steps will be in Splinterlands.
