Hello everyone!

Today I am going to write anoter post about the Stakehouse Den, yes, that's part of the Arcade Colony gaming platform. For those of you unaware, Stakehouse Den has launched a couple of weeks ago. It's kind of a soft release as rewards aren't there (yet). Ofcourse that's understandable as that way the Team behind the games can check everything to make sure that it all runs smoothly. For those of you who have read my previous post, they can see that I have tried out my first game of Blackjack and that I managed to win the game. Today, I will try out another game: Roulette. But first I want to dive a bit into the history of this famous casino game. Because I always want to learn a bit more and I don't know where this game originated from.

Origin of Roulette

Invention of the Roulette wheel

As with plenty of historical dates about when a certain game used to be played the first time, the exact date for the invention of the roulette game is a bit uncertain. But in general it is assumed that it was invented by a French mathematician: Blaise Pascal. In the second half of the 17th century, he tried to invent a machine which would continue to work eternally (perpetuum mobile). Don't ask my why he tried to invent such a machine though. As it seems a bit odd to me to invent such a thing as I guess it's kind of impossible. Will maybe dive into that topic in another post. While he tried to invent his eternal working machine, he ended up with a kind of roulette wheel. This wasn't the real roulette game yet, but atleast the roulette wheel started to exist. The combination of this wheel and the influences of several other games lead to the invention of Roulette as we know it today.

18th century

In the late 18th century, the game started to exist as we play it today in France. You had a field with numbers from 1 to 36 of which the numbers are organized in columns, rows and colors. I stated that there are fields from 1 to 36, but there was one extra field added, named the 0-field. You may wonder why this was done as it seems like some kind of extra number which doesn't fit in the other groups. Well, you are kind of right, it was added by the casino's to work in their advantage. This 0-field added a 2,7% advantage for the house, the casino. As always, casino's are the only real winners when we talk about casino games. ;)

19th century

Through the 19th century, the game started to spreak across Europe and America and started to win in popularity. In Europe the game was described as above mentioned. In America they added another field, a 00-field was added. Again, you may wonder why this was be done. Once again, it was just to try to make even more money from the gamblers, as it was another field in advantage of the house. This gave the house a 5,26% advantage compared to no two 0-fields. So, when you play roulette in America, be aware that the advantage for the house is bigger than in Europe. ;)

20th century

Roulette stayed a popular game through the 20th century in phisical casino's. In the nineties of last century, online casino's started to rise up. In these online casino's the roulette game is popular as well. A new trend started to exist to experiment with the classical roulette game. Online casino's offer several versions like for example Roulette with two balls or lightning roulette in which you could win big bonuses when hitting a certain number. Although, be aware, that the casino's invented these versions to mislead the gamblers as the chanches are different as usual.

Roulette on Stakehouse Den

So far the brief history of the Roulette game. When we have a look at the Roulette game at Stakehouse Den, we can see that they use the American version, thus the one with a bigger advantage for the house. Besides that, it's a usual Roulette game. You can bet on a specific number, a combination of numbers, a row, column, color. It's all possible. Before you play, you have to choose the amount you want to bet. For the moment we play with hotsauce.

Let's play a game of Roulette. As I prefer to not loose too much money, I rather go for a high win probability with a lower amount of pay-outs. So I have chosen to bet on red. Besides the casino tiles, it should be a 50-50. I put 100 Hotsauce in.

After I selected my stake and locked in my bet, I pressed: Spin the wheel.

Unfortunately, unlike my first game of Blackjack, I didn't win my first game of Roulette. Can't always be lucky I guess.

Conclusion

Playing Roulette on Stakehouse Den gives a smooth experience and everything seems to work well. Kudos for the team behind Stakehouse Den. I am already looking forward to the addition of earning really rewards, namely Colony. Besides that, the future addition of video Poker would be great as well. A lot is happening behind the scenes, so better be prepared to not miss out on the fun and the potential rewards!
