With Conclave Arcana officially live and the new season is a few days old, I've had the chance to run my alt account in Wild. And with Chaos Legion and Riftwatchers moving out of Modern and into Wild, there's a ton of experimental lineups being played in Wild. In some ways, it almost feel like the early days again of splinterlands.
A New Home for Chaos Legion
If you've been following my blog, you'll know that this alt account was born out of my 1k Chaos Legion pack opening challenge. That set has carried me for years in Modern. Now, with Conclave Arcana set officially in Modern, Chaos Legion cards are have been moved out of Modern to Wild league. And with the Wild Pass fee waived for the season, I configured xbot to play in Wild.
So the season is a few days old and the bot has played 103 matches and won 69 of them. That's a 67% win rate which is unsustainably high! I think the spike in wins boils down to one key factor: the sheer randomness of teams now appearing in Wild, because everyone has access to it. Also, I like to manually review my bot's battles to understand how it composes team so I can learn from it. One match in particular I really enjoyed and will break it down over the rest of the blog.
Battle History
Match Details
- Mana Cap: 21
- Rulesets: Countspell, Earthquake, Lost Legendaries
Lineup Details
- Wizard of Eastwood: -2 armor to enemy team.
- Venari Marksrat: Martyr monster.
- Pelacor Mercenary: solid tank with flying, and solid survivability.
- Fungus Flinger: Second Martyr card and support ranged damage.
- Regal Peryton: High-speed magic damage and has Flying to evade Earthquake damage.
The bot clearly loves Martyr teams, and for good reason. Especially in Earthquake battles, where you know your low health Martyr monsters are almost guaranteed to be killed within the first few rounds. When they do, they stat boost adjacent monsters. In the battle, both Martyr's monsters died fast, and then suddenly, my Pelacor Mercenary became an absolute beast and cleaned up.
Why This Season Is the Perfect Time to Try Wild
With no cost to enter and no barrier to experiment, it should be more than enough reason to explore the Wild league. Also, with Chaos Legion and Riftwatchers now transitioned to Wild, there will be a whole new slew of teams being played now in Wild. Suddenly now, many unused cards may get a chance at glory! Also, you will not be able to play Survival as the team is making adjustments to the format and if you are not utilizing cards on Land, then come try out Wild!
Concluding Thoughts
The splinterlands team has made a smart move in offering a free season of Wild play. If it gives everyone a chance to earn Glint and SPS, and some Soulbound cards. And hey, if you pull off an awesome win with a weird team composition, write about it. This free Wild season will only last for 2 weeks, so make the most of it while you can.
